A competition for young scientific shoots

After 2 editions of Expo-sciences Hydro-Québec virtually, Technoscience Région métropolitaine is happy to hold the 3 regional finals from the North Shore, Montérégie and Montreal in person. Each final took place over 3 days.

Expo-sciences Hydro-Québec secondary and college components are divided into 4 classes:

  • Junior (secondary 1);
  • Intermediate (secondary 2 and 3);
  • Senior (secondary 4 and 5);
  • Collegiate (1, 2 and 3e year).

Participants work alone, or in teams of two, to design and present a scientific projectThis can be a popularization, design or experimentation project and different themes are possible:

  • Environment and ecosystems;
  • Biological sciences and health sciences;
  • Engineering, computer science and robotics;
  • Pure sciences;
  • Social sciences and social networks.

The projects are then evaluated by a jury of experts according to criteria such as working method, scientific quality, rigor, clarity and oral presentation.

A winning face-to-face return

During each of the regional finals, participants have the opportunity to meet other enthusiasts of science and technology, to share their ideas and create new friendships. This is also confirmed by Antoine, a participant from the North Shore: "The exhibition is really about learning things from others. We can go and see other people's stands, it's cool.".

This return is marked by the presentation of 169 projects for 256 participants.

Expo-sciences Hydro-Québec are also an important event for science and technology professionals, who can meet apprentice scientists and discover the projects created. Thus, young people benefit from the expertise of scientific and technical mentors.

Indeed, in addition to the competition itself, the partners of each of the finals held a booth where they presented various activities for visitors and participants.
