The regional finals of Expo-sciences Hydro-Québec, organized by Technoscience Région métropolitaine, for the North Shore, Montérégie and Montreal, took place from March 7 to 23, 2024. With the participation of 251 exhibitors, this year once again demonstrated the commitment and creativity of young scientists from the region.
After two virtual editions, the return of the regional finals in person was enthusiastically welcomed by all participants. Spread over three days, each final was an opportunity for young talents to present their popular science, experimentation or design projects.
This year there are 251 exhibitors. The competition has continued to attract young people since its creation in 1960.
The projects, carried out individually or in teams, covered a varied range of themes ranging from the environment to IT and science.
Each project was evaluated by a jury according to rigorous criteria: working method, scientific quality and oral presentation. We were able to count on the participation of 120 volunteer judges and 5 chief judges.
Beyond the competition, the regional finals offered participants a unique opportunity to meet other science enthusiasts, share their ideas and make new connections. As Angéla, a participant from Montérégie, points out: «It taught me autonomy because I carried out the project in my free time and I had to be able to organize myself well. It also allowed me to meet a lot of people.»
The competition of Expo-sciences Hydro-Québec feels like coming back. Marguerite for example is participating for the 4th consecutive year with the same enthusiasm «It's an extraordinary experience! We spend 3 days talking about science non-stop, we're immersed in it. It's a must if you like science!»
The holding of these events would not be possible without the valuable support of many partners. Each regional final was made possible thanks to the commitment of various organizations, including academic institutions, businesses and political actors. Their presence alongside the participants, through activity booths, enriched the young people's experience.

The winners of the three regional finals earned their place for the provincial grand final, the Super Expo-sciences Hydro-Québec, which will be held from April 19 to 21 at the Cégep du Vieux Montréal. We congratulate them on their success and encourage them for this next step.

The 3 regional finals of Expo-sciences Hydro-Québec 2023, secondary and college component, organized by Technoscience Région métropolitaine brought together 256 young people.
