About us
THEExpo-sciences is a scientific competition open to young people aged 6 to 20. It’s a must-see in Canada.
The first Expo-sciences of the metropolitan area took place in 1961!
The young people who compete are called exhibitors.
Every year, we organize scientific gatherings for elementary school children from Montreal, Montérégie and the North Shore. These scientific gatherings bring together the regional finals of Expo-sciences Hydro-Québec – primary component as well as the regional finals of the Défi apprenti génie. In addition, facilitators of the Resourceful – scientific activities will be present to provide scientific experiments to the public and students.
What is it about?
IMPORTANT: all projects must go through “Ethics and Regulations” platform in order to ensure the necessity (or not) of requesting an ethics or regulations form and this BEFORE starting the project.
Each primary school student progresses in the class that corresponds to their level: Juvenile 1: 1st and 2nd years (1st cycle of primary) Juvenile 2: 3rd and 4th years (2nd cycle of primary) Juvenile 3: 5th and 6th years (3rd cycle primary)
Exhibitors, alone or in pairs, choose a subject to explore in one of the five scientific fields identified: Environment and ecosystems; Engineering, computer science and robotics; Biological sciences and health sciences; Pure sciences; Social sciences and social networks.
Young people can propose design, experimentation or scientific popularization work.
Then, the exhibitors present the results of their project to a jury of experts and the public. The winners win various prizes.
Competition procedure
1 Day
The installation and verification of the projects are done in the morning, followed by a short opening to the public and a scientific activity for the groups. The afternoon is devoted to the judgment behind closed doors.
2 Day
Day 2 (Saturday): In the morning, the exhibition is open to the public, then in the afternoon, the winners are revealed and rewarded during the awards ceremony.
