Become a judge Expo-sciences Hydro-Québec…Why and how?

Are you passionate about science and want to meet a bright future? Join hundreds of science and technology professionals who get involved each year by becoming a volunteer judge for one or more of the regional finals opportunities, Expo-sciences Hydro-Québec.

The role of the judge Expo-sciences Hydro-Québec

During the regional finals, your mission as a judge is crucial. For the young people, you are an important figure involved in:
  • Communication : exchange, listen and share your experience with young exhibitors.
  • Evaluation : examine projects, ask questions and assess their originality and relevance.

A day as a judge

A few days before the day of judging, a head judge will give you an information session. This period allows us to clearly explain how the day will unfold and to specify certain evaluation methods. Now is the perfect time to ask your questions!  During this training, you will receive the appropriate documents for project evaluation. Indeed, we will give you access to the written reports as well as the judging platform for the evaluations of the reports. Youth projects are divided into three categories:
  • Design : production of techniques, models, methods, devices, products or software;
  • Experimentation : discovery of new ways of doing things, confirmation or refutation of existing results;
  • Popularization : in-depth study of a subject, making scientific knowledge accessible to the general public.

Primary level

3 judges examine each project presented. During the day you evaluate 5 to 6 scientific projects. Judging takes place in 30 minutes per project, 15 minutes of presentation and listening followed by 15 minutes of evaluation.

Secondary and college level

5 judges examine each project presented. During the day, you evaluate 5 to 7 scientific projects. Judging takes place in 30 minutes per project, 15 minutes of presentation and listening followed by 15 minutes of evaluation.
