Become a judge of technological challenges… Why and how?
Are you passionate about science and want to meet a young, bright future? Join hundreds of science and technology professionals who get involved each year by becoming a volunteer judge for one or more of the regional finals of the Défi génie inventif and the Défi apprenti génie.
Judge of the Inventive Genius Challenge
The Inventive Engineering Challenge is an engineering competition for high school students. Participants design a prototype that performs a given action while meeting precise technical specifications.
During the regional finals the volunteer judge can occupy different positions:
- Stopwatch judge;
- Judge at the starting area;
- Judge by measure;
- Judge by scoring.

Judge of Défi apprenti génie
The Apprentice Genius Challenge is a competition for primary school children. This fun program asks participants to design a prototype that meets a simple set of specifications.
During the regional finals the volunteer judge can occupy different positions:
- Judge on the playing area;
- Judge by measure;
- Judge by scoring.
During the regional finals, the volunteer judge's role is to referee the competition in order to designate the winning teams.
Registration Details
There are no prerequisites to register as a technology challenge judge. Everyone can participate.
For 2025, we are looking for judges for the Inventive Genius Challenge on the following dates:
- Montreal: April 12, 2025
- North Shore: April 12, 2025
- Montérégie: April 26, 2025
For 2025, we are not looking for judges for the Défi apprenti génie.
