Awaken your students’ curiosity about Quebec wildlife!

Teachers of the 3rd primary cycle, discover scientific animation, La Biodiversité et moi. We come to your establishments free of charge to introduce your students to the concepts of biodiversity, habitat and conservation.

The objectives of biodiversity and me

The scientific animation biodiversity and me is an educational program designed by the Ministry of the Environment, the Fight against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks. The activity is aimed at young people in 5th and 6th grade of primary school as part of science lessons.

Thus, this turnkey product has several objectives. Your students will:

• Understand the concept of biodiversity and its importance;
• Learn why habitat quality is crucial for wildlife;
• Discover the essential rules to protect wildlife and its habitats;
• Become aware of their role in preserving wildlife.

The content of the scientific activity

The activity consists of 2 phases :

The preliminary activity

Before we come to your establishment, we ask you to complete a 30-minute preliminary activity.

We provide you with a short video on biodiversity to watch in class. We ask young people to draw what biodiversity represents. 

Animation in class

First, we explore the young people's drawings and discuss our understanding of the concept of biodiversity. The entire activity is based on an exchange with the students, similar to a lecture presentation, but with numerous interactions linked to wildlife and its habitats.

To conclude, we introduce artifacts, such as bones, insects and stuffed animals, which students will have the opportunity to touch and examine up close.

The activity is free.

Duration and location    

Two formats are available for hosting this activity:

• The virtual format offers a remote animation lasting 60 minutes;
• The face-to-face format offers classroom entertainment with a 75-minute presentation of objects, ideally without interruption. We come to your establishment.
